Hexagram 44 for work
Hexagram 44 Encounter for work and career
At work Gou is the moment a small, unplanned factor enters a strong structure: a new hire with their own agenda, a minor exception to a rule, a side arrangement nobody reviewed. The Great Image gives the ruler's response — 'issue commands and proclaim them to the four quarters' (施命誥四方): wind under heaven reaches everywhere, and the right use of an encounter is to communicate, to make the situation known before it grows. The Tuan's praise of the strong line in the central, correct place (剛遇中正) points to line five: leadership that contains by presence rather than force.
For a project, a job or a negotiation, line one says deal with the small thing immediately; line two is the manager close enough to hold it in check; line three is the one left out and tempted to meddle; line four is the person who should have had charge and lost it through absence. A changing line in the lower trigram means the influence is still small and containable; in the upper trigram, the question is whether the leadership is present enough to shelter the whole.
The hexagram in brief
Wind under heaven: one yin line arriving beneath five yang. An encounter — the woman is strong; do not marry her. Something small and tempting enters; watch it from the start.
Meet what comes with awareness; enjoy the encounter, but don't let a small influence take over.
The judgment
姤:女壯,勿用取女。Kâu shows a female who is bold and strong. It will not be good to marry (such) a female.
