Hexagram 9 for work
Hexagram 9 Small Accumulation for work and career
At work Xiao Xu describes a situation where a great force is held in check by something small: a project blocked by one approval, a strong team restrained by a cautious manager, a plan ready before its moment. The Great Image says the superior person 'cultivates the refinement of virtue' — polishes skills and presentation while the big move waits. Success is promised, but in small things, and the clouds do not rain on demand.
The strong lines below show the right and wrong way to meet the check: return to your own work (one), go back together with your peers (two), or force it and watch the cart lose its spokes (three). The pivot is four, whose sincerity makes a dangerous position safe, backed by a five that shares. A changing line in the lower trigram means the restraint is still on and should be accepted; one in the upper trigram means you are the restraining side: be honest, share credit, and at the top know the rain has already fallen.
The hexagram in brief
Wind over heaven: dense clouds but no rain yet. A small force restrains a great one for now; gather strength quietly, with success in small things.
Refine, prepare and persuade gently; the big move waits until the clouds break.
The judgment
