Hexagram 16 Delight for work and career

enthusiasmreadinessdelight

At work Yu is the moment momentum arrives: a launch, a team rallied, the judgment's 'favourable to set up leaders and move the army.' The Great Image has the ancient kings composing music to honour merit — enthusiasm here is organised, not just felt — and the name also means readiness: 豫 is to be prepared. The Tuan adds that movement following the natural order is irresistible, like the seasons.

The lines are roles around a charismatic centre. Four is the ruler and source of the energy, told not to doubt, and colleagues gather. One is the junior crowing about closeness to four; two stays composed and reads the signs early; three angles for a share of four's favour. Five is the nominal chief held in place by legitimacy while the drive sits below; six is a team grown dim from long celebration, which can still change. A changing line in the lower trigram asks how you respond to someone else's momentum; in the upper trigram, whether you are the source, the figurehead, or the one who stayed too long at the feast.

The hexagram in brief

Thunder bursting out of the earth: music, enthusiasm, movement in harmony with the time. Favourable to appoint helpers and set things in motion.

Let genuine enthusiasm move others — but prepare in advance, and don't let delight slide into complacency.

The judgment

豫:利建侯,行師。

Yü indicates that, (in the state which it implies), feudal princes may be set up, and the hosts put in motion, with advantage.
