Hexagram 16 for love
Hexagram 16 Delight in love and relationships
Yu is thunder breaking out of the earth: energy released after being held, the moment the music starts. In a relationship it is enthusiasm — a courtship that has caught, a partnership newly energised, feeling that moves people because it moves with the time. The Tuan calls it 'moving in accordance with compliance,' and the qualifier matters: delight is good when it follows what is natural and sours when forced or indulged.
The lines are the shapes enthusiasm takes between two people. One crows about being favoured and spoils it; two keeps its stillness and sees the signs early; three gazes upward for a share of the other's glow and regrets it. Four is the source of the delight, told only not to doubt; five holds the formal place while the energy has passed to the other; six has let pleasure run into dullness and can still turn. A changing line in the lower trigram asks how you respond to another's warmth; in the upper trigram, where the energy in the bond really lies and whether it has run too long.
