Hexagram 56 for love
Hexagram 56 Traveling in love and relationships
Lü is fire on the mountain: the mountain stays, the fire passes over it and moves on. For a relationship it describes a bond in which at least one person is a stranger — new to the place, the family, or passing through. The judgment offers 'small success' to the traveller who stays correct; the Tuan praises the yielding line that holds the centre abroad. This is not a hexagram of settled union; it is about conduct while things are unsettled.
The lines are the traveller's manners. One is pettiness that brings its own trouble; two is the good stretch — a place, enough, and one loyal person; three is hardness toward the people who were helping. Four is safe and uneasy, aware that a shelter is not a home. Five wins a place by a small, willing offering. Six is the guest who built too high a nest and lost the gentleness that kept them welcome. A changing line in the lower trigram asks how you behave as the newcomer; one in the upper trigram asks whether you are mistaking a stopping place for arrival.
The hexagram in brief
Fire on the mountain: the wanderer who does not stay long. Small success; perseverance brings good fortune to the traveller — be modest, correct, and careful with your resources and companions.
Travel light, respect local ways, and keep your centre; a stranger's safety lies in good conduct.
The judgment
旅:小亨,旅貞吉。Lü intimates that (in the condition which it denotes) there may be some little attainment and progress. If the stranger or traveller be firm and correct as he ought to be, there will be good fortune.
